Leaders must establish the standard of protecting their teams in the midst of strange company. If your team comes to expect that you will always find them at fault, you’ll lose their loyalty, and very quickly their presence. Team members must be assured that their leadership will in fact defend them if the circumstance calls for it. A leader must never lose their objectivity, but until the facts are in, the team should remain innocent until proven guilty. A leader who throws their team under the bus often will soon find themselves stripped of the ability to influence.
